Janet Jackson - Janet Jackson leaves Island Records Janet Jackson has terminated her relationship with her label, Island Records, according to her publicist. Her rep said, “At her request, the record label has agreed to dissolve their working relationship. Now more than 20 years after the release of her iconic album, Control, Janet will have autonomy over her career, without the restrictions of a label system.” I can’t say that I blame her, her label ceased the promotion of her newest album, Discipline, stopping the release of any new singles from the album. ...Travis - Travis - Ode To J Smith Twelve years ago, a little-known band from Glasgow paid 600 to record their first single All I Wanna Do is Rock on their own label, which they called Red Telephone Box. After selling more than ten million albums since then, the wheel has in a sense come full circle for Travis as they have revived the label to release their first album since leaving Independiente earlier this year. Musically too Ode to J. Smith shows the band going back to basics, with a significant change of style from last year's cloyingly saccharine The Boy With No Name. With the guitars cranked up,... The Libertines - Dirty Pretty Things Split | Could This Lead To The Libertines Reforming? Dirty Pretty Things, the band that rose from the ashes left by The Libertines, have split up. While lead singer Carl Barat has made it clear this isn’t because of any plans to reform The Libertines, could it be that this eventually could mean the return of the seminal band? There were rumours circulating this morning that Dirty Pretty Things had split, and they have now been confirmed by an official statement issued by the band to NME. It reads: “It is with some sadness we announce the farewell of the Dirty Pretty Things. It’s been a glorious three years which we... Oasis - Oasis nce upon a time, two brothers were in a band that made a record, Definitely Maybe, that was followed by another record, (What's the Story) Morning Glory, that made a bunch of Boomer-aged critics think they were the second coming of a famous band from the '60s. There was much rejoicing. The brothers celebrated with fistfuls of coke and 70 excruciating minutes of Be Here Now. Since then, the band has fought to be regarded as underrated in the wake of a disastrous few years of being over-praised. Oasis never returned to the level of popularity they enjoyed in the mid-'90s,... James - Concert review: James at the El Rey Theater, Oct. 2, 2008 » Music Review: Her Space Holiday - Xoxo, Panda & the New Kid Revival I don't get to see concerts like I used to. Back in college, it seemed like I saw something every couple of weeks. I saw a lot of crap, and I don't mean crap as in "stuff" - I mean, I saw a lot of crap. One band I missed, however is still one of my favorites of all time - James, and it was one of those "missed 'em by that much" things. You see, right about the time the band was due to start touring... Janet Jackson - Janet Jackson quits label The 'Together Again singer demanded Island Records terminate her contract after just over a year with the company because she has grown increasingly disillusioned by their efforts to promote her music. Her spokesperson said: "At her request, the record label has agreed to dissolve their working relationship. Now, more than 20 years after the release of her iconic album 'Control, Janet will have autonomy over her career, without the restrictions of a label." Janet signed to Island Records on July 2007, releasing 'Discipline - her only album with them in February. Although it reached number one in the US album charts,... Travis - DJ AM attends crash memorial service The DJ - who, along with Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker, survived the terrible accident which killed four people - travelled by bus from Augusta, Georgia, where he had been in hospital, to Los Angeles, for the funeral. A source told Usmagazine.com: "Both Travis and DJ AM wanted to be back for the funeral. Travis won't be able to walk for a while since his feet were burned badly." Meanwhile, DJ AM - real name Adam Goldstein - has a new found appreciation for life, and changed his status on social networking website Facebook to "Adam Goldstein is the luckiest guy alive". read:... Oasis - New Music Monday: 6 October “I said maybe/You’re gonna be the one who saves me ? /And after all /You’re my wonderwal…” These are part of the lyrics that marked my adolescence, and got me into the genre defining act of Oasis. ‘Little by Little,’ I became a die hard fan and started checking out the band more. The bands last two records, however, did little to confirm their ‘95-’00 stelar form they were in, when the only thing you could hear on air was Oasis and grunge. Good times, hindu times. Anyway, the band’s with a new record, titled “Dig Out Your Soul“, that sounds... Sigur Ros - Sigur Ros - Unknown Track (Live Video) Sigur Ros has always been a band I have been meaning to give their due but haven’t, probably in large part due to their vocals being sung in Icelandic. I have never been one for instrumental music or music sung in unfamiliar languages - I can only think of Manu Chao and Cesaria Evora as exceptions. Thanks to a timely ‘heads-up’ from SoDakian operative Tboogie, I made a point of catching them when they recently surfaced at the very sold-out show at the United Palace - this huge baroquely detailed theater deep in Harlem. They have also recently played other... Ash - Ash (Ash 1977 Album Tour) With a packed out show at the Roundhouse on September 5th, Ash added a second London date in their recent tour, and as it turns out, this was a record-breaking performance. Ash has officially played the Astoria more than any other band. With a show that was 15 minutes short of two hours, it’s likely to be two of the most well spent hours of my life. I never paid much awareness to Ash in the past, but after witnessing this performance, I’m going to be paying more attention to the Northern Ireland threesome. The band made this performance a ‘1977’... |
