The Raveonettes - The Raveonettes - In And Out Of Control (2009)

Danish electro pop duo The Raveonettes are back with their new studio album In and Out of Control. If you own any of the previous Raveonettes albums you will not be surprised by what you hear. From the opener "Bang" on through we are presented with the pair's typical concoction of '60s wall of sound pop and dark Jesus & Mary Chain-inspired fuzz rock.

It's a sound that seems to be growing more and more formulaic in the band's music. Sometimes, like on the glimmering "Gone Forever", it works.

All too often however, it's a tired sound that we've heard before....

Death From Above 1979 - Death From Above 1979

A FAVORITE FROM FIVE YEARS AGO"Romantic Rights"from the album You're a Woman, I'm a MachineOriginal release date: October 26, 2004iTunes2004:Death From Above 1979 makes their considerable racket with only bass, drums, and the occasional Moog squelch assist. This isn't a gimmick â€" between Sebastien Grainger's frantic wail and the overdriven bass riffs of Jesse F. Keeler, the duo's You're a Woman, I'm a Machine pulses with a steady, sweaty energy that's punctuated with arena-sized hooks. "Blood on Our Hands" boils dance-punk nearly all the way down, leaving only a relentless hi-hat...

Say Anything - Say Anything Say Anything

If you hate Say Anything, Say Anything isn’t going to do a Goddamn thing to change that. All the reasons to hate Max Bemis and Co., the self assuredness, the all too self aware irony, the hints of utter douchery, the obnoxious vocals and tacky freak outs are all still here and perhaps in even greater amounts than ever before. After a string of records that include an album that has been pretty much disowned, one that could nearly be called a musical, and a (pop-punk) double album, it was going to be hard for Say Anything to surprise anyone...

Arctic Monkeys - Arctic Monkeys (Arctic Monkeys Tour Winter 2009)

The red curtain parted and through the smoke lurked five figures; statuesque to soak the acclaim before they solemnly delved into ‘Dance Little Liar'. Few bands could get away with such a brutally understated start but then there are few bands like Arctic Monkeys and few gigs as anticipated as their homecoming. Two and a half years is a long time for such a beloved group to evade Sheffield which would explain the lack of pleasantries as they skipped a proper hello and launched straight into ‘Brianstorm'. Accompanied by a cataracts curing lightshow, the barnstorming track also saw the unveiling...

Frank Turner - Frank Turner - Poetry Of The Deed Single

With his days as a post-hardcore vocalist far behind him, singer-songwriter Frank Turner continues his reinvention with the release of the title track from his 2009 album, ‘Poetry of the Deed’. Whilst it may struggle to compete with the popularity of his previous release, ‘The Road’, ‘Poetry of the Deed’ is a decent single.

Although it slightly leans towards the heavier nature of his folk-rock identity, Turner has retained a likeable sound that remains presentable to a mainstream audience. For an artist that was not so long ago flying solo, his use of a full band is impressive; not disregarding subtle...

Groove Armada - Groove Armada - I Won't Kneel

Andy Cato and Tom Findlay funkmaster fingertips recreate and continue to stylishly evolve with Groove Armadas stunning new release 'I Wont Kneel. Collaborating with female input from SaintSaviour, whose distinct vocal sound is slightly reminiscent of a young Kate Bush.

The track is crafted to create a unique new sound which GA look like they are developing - progressing for future productions? SaintSaviours sparkling melodies gives the track an artic presence - the ideal match to compliment the keyboard grooves Cato/Findlay lay down..

Bloody Beetroots remix adds a harmonious, lighter take to GAs track, Joe & Will remix adds heavier basslines, a...

R.e.m. - R.E.M.

ecorded during a series of performances at Dublin's famed Olympia club in July 2007, R.E.M.'s Live at the Olympia double album provides great insight into the band's creative process as they used a series of club dates to work out the kinks in the arrangements of the songs that would eventually form 2008's Accelerate. The alternate versions of the excellent "Supernatural Superserious" (included here under its original title, "Disguised") and "Man-Sized Wreath" suggest that the band edits their material with a strong ear for overall tone and sound quality, since the arrangements included recall the heavy distortion and grunge...

Arctic Monkeys - Arctic Monkeys

WEEKEND VIDEO "Cornerstone"Humbug2009iTunes The stage presence and allure of a band's frontman is surely an important ingredient to any musical dynamic. The Bravery - The Bravery

WEEKEND VIDEO "Slow Poison"Stir the Blood2009iTunes Between prepping the release of their new album, Stir the Blood, and branching out creatively, the Bravery have been busy lately. It's no surprise that the video for their new single, "Slow Poison," is just a bit trippy. "Synesthesia is when your brain sees music as colors. That is what my brain does, and these are the colors I see when I hear this song," lead vocalist Sam Endicott tells Spinner of the video's concept. "As in the song, the astronaut is lost, searching for his angel. Except,...
