Flyleaf - Flyleaf Memento Mori

Opening track, "Beautiful Bride", is a terrible song to open Memento Mori with. The riffs are boring, the vocals are lackluster, the hook is weak, and the group-singing near the end is awful. If that song was representative of the quality found on this album the band would have been in trouble. After a complete listen, though, it turns out that it is easily the worst track on the album and probably should have been completely omitted. Where that song’s riffs feel dull and lifeless, the rest of the album’s are chunky and energetic. Where Lacey’s vocals fall short on...

Steve Appleton - Steve Appleton (Go:Audio October 2009 Tour)

Steve Appleton won over the hearts of many when he introduced himself with his single ‘City Won’t Sleep’. He is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, so when it comes to performing live, you wonder just how this young musician would be able to pull it off.

Appleton stated that he usually has a full band behind him, assuming so that he can go between keys and guitars as he pleases. On this occasion however he had no band, instead, the stage consisted of himself, two guitars, keyboards and plenty of backing tracks. Having been witness to gigs before that have failed...

Them Crooked Vultures - I ask, I receive! Them Crooked Vultures playing LA, thank you Universe!

Now that’s what I’m fuckin’ talking about! Earlier today I said I couldn’t wait til Them Crooked Vultures announced a show in Los Angeles and I really hoped that somehow, someone could slide me into it cuz I cant afford to buy tickets. I’m barely making rent every month, but at least I am and I’m thankful for that. I’m not really allowed to buy “luxury items” right now cuz I asked my girlfriend to help me save money cuz I suck really bad at keeping money in my bank account. And “luxury items” mean slurpies, weed, eating out,...

Amy Millan - Amy Millan - Masters Of The Burial (2009)

I've always thought that an artist who step away from their main bands to do solo work should differ from what they normally do. Stars/Broken Social Scene singer Amy Millan does this very well. On her solo albums she breaks from the ethereal indie rock of Stars and goes in for a more mellow, country-oriented sound.

Millan stays true to that trend on her new album Masters Of The Burial. The record is her second without her Montreal bandmates and it picks up right where her debut left off.

Songs like "Low Sail" and "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" are...

America - GWAR Slave Pit Artists Go Beserk in Frenzy of Creativity, Human Race in Complete Awe

SLAVE PIT ARTISTS GO BERSERK IN FRENZY OF CREATIVITY"HUMAN RACE IN COMPLETE AWE

GWAR’s “AMERICA MUST BE DESTROYED” DELUXE EDITION  WITH “TOUR DE SCUM” AND “PHALLUS IN WONDERLAND” OUT NOW!

You might think that servicing the needs of GWAR in this, the midst of their 25th Anniversary Tour would be a full-time job. And it is! But for the artists of Slave Pit Inc., the production company that created and maintains GWAR lust for all things rubber, a constant slew of side-projects is business as usual. This holiday season sees the artists behind the most notorious band in metal history involved in...

Take That - Robbie Williams Confirms Take That Reunion Plans

It looks as though the Robbie Williams/Take That reunion is an unstoppable force building more momentum by the day. Robbie has now confirmed he and the group have met up and recorded together again for the first time since he left in 1995. It’s now more a question of when rather than if.

There has been rumors and talk of a reunion for months now, but the end of September saw Take That and Robbie Williams meet up in a New York recording studio. At the time, I thought it could just be newspaper talk but Robbie...

Lucero - Lucero - 1372 Overton Park (2009)

I was approached to review the new Lucero album and I thought I would give this "new band" a shot. After doing some research on this band I have realized my mistake. This band will probably be one of those "overnight successes" that took 10 years to happen. Yes, they released their debut self-titled album in 2000 on a tiny label called Madjack. Now, 9 years later, the Tennessee-based band fronted by Ben Nichols is finally on a major label, Universal Republic to be precise, to release their eighth full-length album 1372 Overton Park. I'm not sure that's a good...

Lostprophets - Lostprophets (Lostprophets Q Awards Show)

The room was filled with anxious fans, keyed up by the support acts The New 1920s and The Blackout and doing their best to stay pumped while being inundated with dancey pop music during the break. The tension and anticipation was palpable as everyone waited for the band they'd come to see.

To a darkened room that vibrated with the screams and cheers, the band of the moment took to the stage. Kicking it all off with new single 'It's Not The End Of The World' Lostprophets hit the stage in Kentish Town with a bang of light and sound and...

Monsters Of Folk - Monsters of Folk

"Say Please"from the album Monsters of Folk2009iTunesMonsters of Folk are already being called this generation's Traveling Wilburys, but a better comparison is Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Like CSNY, Monsters of Folk yoke together a quartet of folk-minded rockers [Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis of Bright Eyes, M. Ward of She & Him] at the top of their game " and both groups create something that's often greater than the sum of its parts. For one thing, there are the harmonies, which step...
