A Static Lullaby - A Static Lullaby - Rattlesnake!

Somewhere between And Don’t Forget To Breathe and Faso Latido, A Static Lullaby made the decision to go from a hardcore screamo act to a band that wanted to find mainstream success. Rattlesnake! may not be the bubblegum, polished pop album to get them played all over the radio or make Billboard’s top 20 but it does see the band heading towards a Story of the Year/My Chemical Romance style of overall socially accepted music. “Scavenger” is more in the vein of Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge then The Black Parade, playing on some swift guitar work and driving pop...

Underoath - Album review: Underoath - Lost In The Sound Of Separation

I didn’t have high hopes for Underoath. As soon as the press release mentioned that Lost In The Sound Of Separation is an album from a Christian group with “what may be the biggest metalcore following in the world”, I expected the worst. As the weeks pass by, metalcore becomes more and more useless as a definition for anything more precise than “relentless shouty crap”… and that’s why I think calling Underoath metalcore does them a huge disservice.

That’s just my prejudice, of course. But from where I’m sitting, Lost In The Sound Of Separation is a progressive collection of highly...

Bob Dylan - Music Review: Bob Dylan - Knocked Out Loaded

Knocked Out Loaded was released July 14, 1986 and would be one of the worst selling albums of his career as it would find a distant Dylan who seemed preoccupied. The first hint that this is an unfocused album is the number of musicians and singers that appear in the credits which number over fifty. Ultimately it would not be a terrible release but it would be a forgettable one.

There is one shining moment on the album and that is the 11 minute song co-written by playwright Sam Shepard. The music is average on “Brownsville Girl,” but the lyrical quality is...

Judas Priest - Album Review: Judas Priest - Nostradamus

They say that it has been a long time coming. They say that fans of "The Proiyst" have been holding their breath for Halford & company to put out an album that offers more than a mere collection of anthems. Making their inevitable reunion comeback in 2005 with _Angel of Retribution_, Judas Priest had delivered just that sort of album, a mixed bag of career spanning, self-referential pieces that entertained but left one feeling unsatisfied. Yet, if the absurd and epic paean to Nessie which closed that opus was a harbinger of what was to come, it was as a...

Bob Dylan - This Week’s New Reviews: Bob Dylan, Oasis, Rise Against and More

The latest entry in Bob Dylan’s “Bootleg Series” leads the slate of new releases hitting stores today. Dylan’s Tell Tale Signs: The Bootleg Series Vol. 8 collects three discs worth of outtakes, b-sides and live tracks from his late-career resurgence, starting in 1989. Mikal Gilmore says “This collection bears witness to Dylan’s reclamation of voice and perspective. He had been a singular visionary who upended rock & roll by recasting it as a force that could question society’s values and politics, but he relinquished that calling as the society grew more dangerous.” Click below for the complete write-up of Tell...

Underoath - Underoath + Oh Sleeper + Envy on the coast @ The Garage, Glasgow 7/9/08

Having turned up early to interview the band at around 3:30pm, the queue had already started to form and doors were not opening until 7pm. Everyone had been gearing up to this long awaited gig, and it certainly looked like it was going to sell out. Oh Sleeper, a metal band from Texas opened the show. The quality of sound that was produced wasn’t fantastic, but that was not there faults. The band battled on showing the crowd why they deserved to be in Kerrang’s Introducing page this month. Tracks such as “Vices like Vipers” had the crowd head banging along.Next...

Thursday - News: Thursday Sign With Epitaph

New Jersey rockers Thursday have inked a new deal with Epitaph Records.

The band will release their fifth full-length album through their new home in Spring 09.

“One of our biggest concerns was that we find a situation where we could be free to just be Thursday. Epitaph have continually voiced their desire to help us become the band that WE have always wanted to be. It's a great feeling to have a label encourage you to be more socially conscious and politically active. It's a great feeling to have a label owner push you to explore the most experimental and challenging...

Kiss - Jadakiss Says Internet Is An Outlet For Suckers

From YouTube battles to blog wars, the internet has become an instant battlefield for anyone with a PC and some spare time. Jadakiss recently revealed his feelings on hip-hop's internet age saying it is "definitely an outlet for suckers."

"YouTube and the internet is something dangerous for some people who want to sit at home and launch missiles from their bedrooms," Kiss said. "Everyone should take it easy and watch what they are saying."

In other Kiss news, the rapper is said to be putting the finishing touches on his new album, Kiss My Ass. Kiss said it features Lil Wayne, Young...

Zz Top - ZZ Top - Eliminator

All the previous album titles prior to this had a distinctly Southern style when it came to titles • Rio Grande Mud, Tres Hombres, Fandango, Tejas etc. One great passage from the sleeve notes suggest that Billy Gibbons suggested there was a typo, ‘’The album was supposed to be called El Liminator’’, class!

I bought this, when it came out in 83’ purely on the back of ‘Gimme All Your Lovin’, a great opener for what turned out to be a great album. On discovery there were a least another 4 classic tracks that would launch ZZ Top into the stratosphere.

Eliminator...
