Radiohead - Neil Finn partners with Radiohead, Wilco and Johnny Marr on new album

It's been seven years since 7 World's Collide was recorded. That Neil Finn live solo album saw the Crowded House man rope in pals from Radiohead, Johnny Marr and Lisa Germano. Up next is a similar album affair, to be recorded in the studio with same set of chums only augmented by some more big hitters.

The 7 Worlds Collide follow-up sees Johnny Marr, Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien and drummer Phil Selway and Lisa Germano join Finn in the studio. Further guests on the recording are confirmed to be Wilco quartet Jeff Tweedy, John Stirratt, Glenn Kotche, and Pat Sansone, Neil...

Air - Cynic Traced In Air

It’s hard to go into Traced in Air without lingering memories of Cynic’s original masterpiece, Focus. Focus was a landmark technical metal album, deftly combining heavy metal with elements of jazz and alternative rock to form what is still regarded as one of the pinnacles of the metal scene in the early 90’s. This leaves Traced in Air with two sets of shoes to fill: it first has to live up to how great Focus was quality-wise, but it also has the anticipation of perhaps being another genre-fusing and building album like its predecessor. While some may have expected the...

Death Cab For Cutie - Death Cab For Cutie - No Sunlight

Death Cab For Cutie are a band enjoying a surge in popularity that, after 11 years, must have them scratching their heads in disbelief. 'No Sunlight' is the latest single from the Washington band, and is an eloquent explanation of their newfound status. A short, sleek example of polished pop-rock, 'No Sunlight' is filled with catchy guitar riffs, bright piano and the honeyed tones of Benjamin Gibbard.

One small gripe would be the intense production. Not a note sounds anything less than painstakingly arranged, which at times can sound a little sterile, a la Jimmy Eat World. Generally though, it works...

Dido - Safe Trip Home

Losing a loved one is a hard thing to deal with. The rush of emotions can be overwhelming and it may even feel like the hurt will never go away. We all have different ways of dealing with the pain that comes with loss, some constructive and some not so much. It seems to be human nature, though, to want to make sure that the person who has passed is not forgotten. Again, we all have our own way of ensuring that a person’s memory lives on, and with artists of any kind that way usually results in some of...

Archive - Inside the World’s Largest Album Collection, The 3 Million-Strong RecordRama Archive

In 1951, at the age of 12, Paul Mawhinney bought his first record, Frankie Lane’s Jezebel. His collection has grown quite a bit since: Mawhinney has dedicated his life to acquiring every recording issued in the U.S. His now 3 million-strong archive is organized alphabetically and cataloged in his Pittsburgh warehouse. It is the world’s largest record collection, and growing every day.

Mawhinney, who ran the RecordRama store for 40 years until it closed in February, has recently put the $50 million dollar collection up for grabs at a mere $3 million because the economy scares him â€" he’s got bills...

Van Morrison - Van Morrison :: Astral Weeks @ Hollywood Bowl

What happens to the bands we love when they don’t call it quits. Ups, downs, break-downs, break-ups, reunions. And then, the backing-band: three back-up singers, too many guitarists, a percussionist. It can all get to be a little too much.So when Van Morrison played the first night of two at the Hollywood Bowl, those more

The Decemberists - The Decemberists Days of Elaine

The second in the limited edition series (500 only) Always The Bridesmaid, 'Days of Elaine' sounds just like the Smiths and Belle and Sebastian. The lyrics are sad, the tune is jaunty but it's ever so familiar indiepop (try singing "the boy with the Arab strap" along to it). The B-side is the Decemberists' cover of 'I've Sticking With You', a duet between Jenny Conlee and Colin Meloy. It starts quirky then becomes quite tender, which is a bit of a surprise when you're most familiar (from the advert) with that first nursery rhyme part and not what follows. A...

Radiohead - Download: Radiohead - ‘Harrrowdown Hill’ (Thom Yorke remix)

Yesterday, the 5th of November, will most likely remain in the history books as one of the most important dates of US culture. The day the first colored American President was elected, President Obama. Fireworks, bonfires and loads of other celebrations swept the US and world, alike, in honor of this momentous day. I, for one, got really carried away by the hype and even forget that the day was synonymous with Guy Fawkes day, a date very dear to my heart. ‘Remember, remember, the 5th of November’

Oh, well looks like everybody is celebrating Obama’s victory, from hearty teens,...
