Don’t get me wrong. These guys sound good! They make dirty rock ‘n’ roll with a laid back California blues feel and countrified bluegrass flavour. Drums and cymbal accentuate the plodding rhythms throughout these ten tracks (plus one sound-byte). Slide guitar whines mournfully through songs like 'Call the Ceasefire' and the melodies are pleasant enough...but sadly it’s tough to get too excited about this album.
Much of Spiral Stairs’ self titled release has a mediocre, middle of the road feel that neither excites nor irritates. In fact it has a somewhat soporific effect. These guys just don’t seem to move anywhere...
