GARY BARLOW has been approached by Cheryl Cole about writing a song for her.

The Girls Aloud star is reportedly "desperate" for the Take That frontman to pen a ballad for her debut solo album.

Reports in New magazine said Cole asked Barlow to write the song while the pair were climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for Comic Relief earlier this year.

Cole has already secured the help of Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am and Taio Cruz for her solo offering, expected to be released later this year.

Barlow didn't confirm the news but said: "Cheryl's great. She's fun, feisty and knows her stuff!"
