For some time now, Dredg have remained as part of what I consider “essentials” in my music collection. Their blend of mysterious, spacey atmospherics with strangely accessible vocal hooks and foreign, unfamiliar lyricism is to die for. Of course, “El Cielo” will always be the band’s undeniable power record, supercharged with witty rhythm changes, chaotic interludes, all the while embracing experimentation. Their last album, “Catch Without Arms,” embraced ironies and tugged the heartstrings.
