BERNARD SUMNER has revealed that Harvey Keitel inspired the name of his new band.

The New Order star said he named the three-piece Bad Lieutenant after the award-winning actor's 1992 ultra-violent film.

Sumner has teamed up with former New Order guitarist Phil Cunningham and newcomer Jake Evans to form the band who have recorded a new album with Blur's Alex James.

According to NME.com, they also collaborated with Sumner's former New Order and Joy Division drummer Stephen Morris who is expected to join the group for an upcoming tour.
