Bands who've been around as long as U2, and having been as hugely successful, deserve respect in my book, mainly because they don't need to do it any more. Without the necessity to cover next month's rent or to consider the impact of your work on longer term prospects, an established band can merely express its art. Bands like The Cure and Metallica continue to do just that and have an impressive record of quality releases. Not sure that U2 quite make that grade.
