May I be so bold as to demand some affirmative action for Ugly Duckling?
They must be the most consistently underrated group in hip hop and I can’t help thinking the fact that they are predominantly white and geeky-looking is working against them. Maybe it has nothing to do with race; white boys imitating black guys have been making money out of hip hop for years. But then that seems to be Ugly Duckling’s other barrier to success; their unwillingness to conform to the commercial characteristics of rap.
