Every neo-grunge garland draped on Scout Niblett's scruffy head belongs there. Pale and dirty and wearing a neon-orange 'safety' outfit; Niblett sounds and looks as though she's emerged from a wooded crime-scene investigation somewhere along the Willamette River. The fact that she has relocated to Portland, Oregon from the UK must have something to do with this growth from the shaggy pigeon-toed blonde persona to the deep-gutted and uncomfortable realism of her recent work. She's shed the usual golden wig for her natural brown scraggles. The twee-ness is stripped away and a harder, scrappier, more interesting artist has been revealed. Sore-throated warbling...
