As one of the premier hip bands of the mid 90s, Mercury Rev with their debut album created glorious soundscapes that captured the imagination of most intellectual indie rock fans. Now they have returned with the dance-influenced 'Snowflake Midnight', and Jonathan Donahue and co have chosen the trance-like 'Butterfly's Wing' as their next single. A beautifully crafted track, full of layered vocals and dream-like electronica, the single may lack the punch of their peak work on 'Deserter's Songs' but is a fresh new direction for the New York troupe.
