Guess what? The Dinosaur Jr of the 21st century sound exactly like the Dinosaur Jr of the 20th century. Somewhere around 1987 or 1988 frontman J Mascis hit up on his own particular vein of "ear-bleeding country" that hes been mining ever since. While other, more restless artists might feel the need to shake things up sonically on occasion, Mascis seems perfectly content to try out variations of the same basic formula amps turned up to 11, laconic-but-tortured vocals and epically crunchy guitar heroics.
