It’s been a while since I last really listened to Mogwai, around the time of Come On Die Young. Along with the more po-faced Godspeed You! Black Emperor they always were one of the few exponents of post-rock to actually manage to make their instrumental musings engaging and meaningful. They’ve experimented with vocals in the mean time, but the Hawk is Howling is comfortingly all-instrumental.
