Overkill is the lead single from Kosheen’s third album, Damage. Kosheen are another of those bands I’ve been vaguely aware of in the past, but rashly written off. The reason I’m saying that is because Overkill is actually quite a good song. I did a bit of poking around for information about the band and the main thing I discovered is that the singer, Sian Evans draws numerous comparisons with Roisin Murphy. Overkill has a dark electronica sound with a throbbing bassline and overlaid by Sian’s throaty vocal. It’s almost a rock song disguised as a dance track.
