While this Austin group's debut album "Passover" was an initally impressive dose of drone-heavy psychedelic rock, subsequent listens (and to their credit, there were a lot) revealed that The Black Angels were lacking a strong personality. Still, there was enough magic in their rock grooves (inspired by the less-is-more sounds that The Stooges, Spacemen 3, BJM and 13th Floor Elevators all had in their early work) that it was assumed that they would just get better with age.
