In the small town of Victoria, nestled between the influential cities of Vancouver and Seattle, a new band formed to create their own sound. In April 2002, Sub Pop released Hot Hot Heat's first EP, Knock Knock Knock, focusing on a heavily sythned sound. But as the band changed, so did their sound. Matthew Marnik, a friend of the band, sang vocals initially, but left, appointing keyboardist Steve Bays as the new singer.
