A judge has reinstated a wrongful death lawsuit brought forward by the family of the late Notorious B.I.G. overruling a previous decision to dismiss the case. According to the AP, an appeal by the family had the lawsuit reinstated overturning U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper's decision to dismiss the case March 21. Cooper said she dismissed the case because the family had missed a state deadline to file complaints against the city of Los Angeles and two former police officers. The Notorious B.I.G. was killed March 9, 1997 outside of a Soul Train Awards after party. Two wrongful death lawsuits were filed. And although the first lawsuit (filed in 2002) was declared a mistrial in 2005, it remains open as a judge allows the family to amend the lawsuit based on new evidence.
