Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails have provided another offering to fans (after the recent Ghosts), this time a completely free giveaway. The name of the album is The Slip, and you can download it now at the Nine Inch Nails web site. Nine Inch Nails is giving you The Slip! Except, rather than leaving you at the dinner table to rush out the backdoor (i.e. the slip), you get free music. How's that for irony? You also get liner notes in the form of a NIN PDF. If the free download isn't quality enough for you (you're so demanding!), you can choose to buy a CD or (even better yet) vinyl version of The Slip. The download of The Slip isn't confined to any low-grade MP3's, either. You get your choice of MP3, FLAC, M4A or WAVE formats. Trent Reznor has turned Nine Inch Nails into the gift that keeps on giving. I can't remember anyone being this excited about being free from the constraints of a major label contract since Prince finished his deal with Warner Brothers. As if that's not enough, it's been issued under a Creative Commons license, meaning there's very few restrictions on the use of the music. The Nine Inch Nails web site reads "we encourage you to remix it, share it with your friends, post it on your blog, play it on your podcast, give it to strangers, etc." This of course all feeds into the Nine Inch Nails Summer tour, ready to kick off on July 25th at the Pemberton Festival in British Columbia.
