It's always comforting when something does exactly as says on tin. In Stephen Merritt's (aka The Magnetic Fields) new album he offers a delightful concoction of trademark theatrical twee-indie combined with layer of upon layer of Distortion. It all sounds exactly this way too, with each of the thirteen tracks coming in at the 3:00-mark (give or take the odd ten seconds), with Merritt creating a cohesive record that's thoroughly enjoyable and heavily ironic with an intentionally overplayed theme.
