Beguiling if a little frilly at times, Bat For Lashes' debut LP is dark and mysterious, full of atmospheric keyboards, throbbing basslines and the occasional autoharp or piano tinkle. Ostensibly a nom-de-plume for UK-Pakistani singer-songwriter Natasha Khan, the record full of druid-rock staples as wizards, magic horses, court jesters, and coats of armor sometimes feels like Portishead by way of Dungeons & Dragons creator Gary Gygax.
