With eleven full-length albums to his credit, singer/songwriter Vic Chesnutt uses his crafty veteran pedigree to churn out twelve compellingly ominous tracks for his latest LP North Star Deserter. Chesnutt boasts an impressive back catalogue, and this latest effort holds its ground with any of his previous work. Recorded in ten days in one of the last sessions at Montreal's Hotel2Tango studio, the album features film producer Jem Cohen in his debut as a record producer. Cohen admits, "I make films, I am no record producer," and so it makes perfect sense that the result is something cinematic in scope. ...
