Animal Collective member Avey Tare (Dave Portner) has just announced plans to release a solo album this Fall, titled Down There. It will be released on Animal Collective's own Paw Tracks label on October 26th.

I have to admit that every time a band starts spinning off solo projects (see Panda Bear's single series and album release for this Summer/Fall), I have to ask: is Animal Collective in break up mode?
