Perpetually hard-working Brooklyn-based rockers the Hold Steady will release their fifth album in six years, Heaven Is Whenever, on May 4.
Working for the first time since their 2004 debut, Almost Killed Me, without keyboardist Franz Nicolay, who announced his departure from the band in January, the new album is "guitar-heavy," according to Tab Kubler. But it's not a "heavy guitar record," meaning we can expect more nuanced axe-work and a heftier dose of acoustic guitar.
While the lineup and sound might have shifted, the emotionally charged nature of frontman Craig Finn's lyrics should remain unchanged, starting from the album title itself....
